Food trucks are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S., and Nevada is no exception. In Reno, mobile food vendors sell a variety of cuisine, but nothing seems to be as popular among locals as Mexican food.

With fresh, authentic dishes from south of the border and prices that won’t break the bank, the five Reno taco trucks below are frequented by the Biggest Little City’s locals. Each truck serves as a reminder that you don’t have to go to a 5-star restaurant to experience a high-quality meal.

Daddy’s Tacos

“Who’s Your Daddy?” is the question spray painted on the back of the Daddy’s Tacos food truck. With authentic recipes from Mexico City and a new special every day, the answer might just be Daddy’s Tacos.

Opened by a foodie who “got bored,” according to Instagram, this orange food truck puts its own spin on tacos, quesadillas, burritos and other traditional favorites for breakfast and lunch. On Yelp, Seth M. writes that Daddy’s Tacos truck is the “most bang for your buck truck in town.”

In addition to the taco truck, the restaurant opened a brick-and-mortar location at 4840 Mill Street, #8, and you can order their food for delivery or pickup on the website. To find the truck in action, check out its online schedule.

Tacos la Bufa

Parked across from the Peppermill Reno near a liquor store with an ATM, this cash-only food truck opens at 5 p.m. for all your dinner and late night munchie needs. The truck is known for its addictive street-style tacos, variety of meat and vegetarian (no fish) fillings, and generous portions. It’s a popular spot and often busy, but patrons don’t seem to mind.

Tacos La Bufa also has a brick and mortar location with a salsa bar at 5255 Longley Lane, #135. According to @gringo_en_yucatan on Instagram, Tacos la Bufa is “almost as good as in Mexico” while Alize D. writes on on Yelp, “the salsa was fire.”

King Reno Tacos

King Reno Tacos serves as a reminder that you don’t have to eat somewhere fancy in order to eat like royalty. The food truck is run by a talented chef who fell in love with cooking by working in his family’s restaurant.

Tacos like the Green Goblin, Wolfpack Taco, and and Mexico City Taco are intended to bring modern Mexican food to the next level utilizing new and exciting flavors like avocado crema, grilled pineapple, and sweet peppers. King Reno Tacos is a popular choice for private events and parties, so you never know when it will pop up (though it helps to check the website).

These are “the best tacos hands down,” writes Cat F. on Yelp, noting that the only downside is there isn’t a storefront for  whenever she has a craving.

Cheli’s Tacos

Known for its rich and flavorful birria street tacos, Cheli’s Food Truck is so certain their food is delicious that they’ll give you your money back if you disagree, according to Instagram.

Open in the evenings until 10 p.m., the menu is straightforward offering tacos, quesadillas, burritos, tortas, nachos and asada fries with choice of meat, including lengua (tongue), asada (steak), pastor (marinated pork), cabeza (head), pollo (chicken) carne de res (beef), pork, gut, and shrimp.

The quesabirria tacos really may be the best in town,” according to  Elizabeth D.on Yelp. Luis G. takes things a step further, writing that they are “the absolute best Mexican food truck in town.”

Tacos El Carrito

With fast service and savory barbacoa, Tacos El Carrito is a silver, cash-only food truck parked in a shopping center at 1900 Silverada Blvd. Originally a food stand and upgraded to a truck, Tacos El Carrito serves authentic Mexican food, from tasty tacos to gorditas with mole during limited hours on Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday mornings.

There are only 14 reviews on Yelp but they are all 5-star reviews. Writes Angel A., “This is definitely a gem and needs to be heard of.” Adds Bernadette R., “This food is freaking delicious.” And Andres S. ensures, “You can’t go wrong with any item on the menu.”
