While Donald Trump has repeatedly tried to distance himself from the widely unpopular Project 2025, more and more evidence shows the former president’s ties to the conservative policy playbook. The presidential transition initiative spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation had at least 140 former Trump administration staffers working on Project 2025, including many high-ranking advisors who were listed in the document as either an author, editor, or contributor. Trump has also praised the Heritage Foundation and has flown on a private jet with the group’s president, and during a reception hosted by the collective in 2022, the former president called them a “great group.” “They’re going to lay the ground work and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do and what your movement will do when the American people give us a colossal mandate to save America,” Trump said in April 2022. Newly surfaced internal Project 2025 training videos further solidify those connections to Trump. The videos, obtained and published by ProPublica, show 29 of 36 speakers highlighted have been found to have worked for Trump in some capacity — from his 2016 presidential campaign, in the administration, or his 2024 re-election team.
