Nevadans are sounding the alarm after a recent news report revealed Nevada Republican US Senate candidate Sam Brown’s prior support for restarting the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository project. For decades, the federal government has sought a single location to dump spend nuclear waste, and since 1987 has identified a site called Yucca Mountain as that site. Yucca Mountain is less than 100 miles from Las Vegas, and Nevada officials on both sides of the aisle have been in lockstep to prevent the project from ever taking off. But Brown’s comments alongside a plan by former Trump administration officials to restart the project have placed it back into the political discussion this election season.
