Wisconsin’s election results got the “official” stamp on Friday, November 29. Aside from about 100 ballots being issued for the incorrect ward in Marathon County, Election Administrator Meagan Wolfe reported no major election issues.

Canton Mayor Blast Shady Legislation Masquerading as Hurricane Relief Bill

Following Governor Roy Cooper’s veto of SB 382, Canton Mayor Zeb Smathers is calling on the general assembly to uphold the veto.

The bill, passed last week was labeled as a hurricane relief bill, stripped powers from incoming Democratic lawmakers and provided little direct relief for western North Carolina as it continues to recover from Hurricane Helene.

Smathers praised Republican Representatives Pless, Clampitt, and Gillespie of western NC for voting against the bill.

“The people that went through this hurricane deserve our very best and this bill was not our very best,” he said.

IRONY ALERT!

The Wisconsin Legislature is entering the ninth month of lawmakers getting paid to not be in session, but Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says one of his first priorities is forcing more state employees to give up work-from-home arrangements.

Speaking on WISN-TV’s Upfront, Vos displayed no sense of irony in saying state services aren’t what they should be because workers aren’t in an office.

Vos also showed no support for the idea of using the state’s $4 billion to improve finances for schools districts, even though hundreds of them had to go to referendum due to state aid not keeping up with inflation.
