To say that President-elect Trump’s nominee to be the next US Secretary of Agriculture is an unknown is a bit of an understatement. Brooke Rollins of Texas was a domestic policy advisor in Trump’s first administration, with some family farming experience based in 4H, Future Farmers of America, and showing cattle.

The USDA, meanwhile, has 100,000 employees and is responsible for a food and farming sector of the economy valued at more than $1 trillion.

Congress is also more than a year late updating the Farm Bill, and with Trump threatening trade wars that could cripple Wisconsin farmers, it’s no wonder producers around the state are trying to figure out if Rollins is an ally, an adversary, or a placeholder.
