Join Reno’s free Holiday Lights Festival, featuring a tree lighting ceremony, Santa photos, train rides, and local vendors.
The Biggest Little City is preparing to welcome the holiday season with a free two-day celebration featuring the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Reno City Plaza. The Holiday Lights Festival, presented by Great American Craft Fairs, will transform downtown Reno into a winter wonderland on November 29 and 30, 2024.
Festival highlights and main events
The centerpiece of the festival will be the official Christmas tree lighting ceremony, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 29.
“I hope to see all our residents come out to celebrate the start of the holiday season with this big tradition in the Biggest Little City,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said in a press release. “It’s truly a great opportunity for families and friends to gather for the lighting of the Christmas tree downtown and enjoy the entire festival.”
Family-friendly activities and entertainment
The festival, running from 4 to 9 p.m. on both days, offers an array of free activities for visitors of all ages. Families can enjoy complimentary photos with Santa and enchanting Christmas train rides at City Plaza. The event will also feature live music and entertainment throughout both evenings.
Local artisans and vendors
A highlight of the festival is its focus on regional artisans, who are invited to participate free of charge. The event will include an artisan marketplace, food truck garden, and holiday ale fest, bringing together local vendors to create a unique shopping and dining experience.
Practical information
The Holiday Lights Festival is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the City Hall parking garage at University Way and E. First Street. The event will take place around the City Plaza and Virginia Street Bridge area.
