From Reno to Las Vegas, here are 10 of the best Mexican meat markets, or carnicerias, in northern and southern Nevada.

Mexican meat markets, or carnicerias, are a staple among Latino communities in Nevada. These stores often offer a wide variety of meat selections and top-quality cuts used in authentic Mexican cuisine as well as marinated and pre-seasoned meats that are ready to throw on the grill. Many of them are helmed by professional butchers.

From full-service butcher shops to small butcher counters inside larger grocery stores, these 10 Mexican meat markets in northern and southern Nevada will “meat” all your carnivorous needs.

Carnicerias in Northern Nevada

Marketon

1500 S. Wells Ave., Reno

Marketon grew from a neighborhood store to four full-service supermarkets: three in Las Vegas and one in Reno. La Carniceria is butcher-helmed with several cuts of meat, and protein choices like chicken, beef, pork, seafood, and marinated meats. Even picky shoppers are accommodated at the butcher counter, writes one Yelper with specific packaging needs. “Flawless and clean,” writes another.

Carniceria La Chiquita Meat Market & Deli

4385 Neil Rd., #102, Reno

Carniceria La Chiquita Meat Market & Deli is a butcher shop and grocery store specializing in Latin-cut meats and marinades. It’s the “best butcher shop in town,” according to Yelpers. The market offers quality meats, many pre-seasoned or marinated, as well as pork carnitas, chicharrones, and other prepared meals.

Carcineria Samber

2360 Oddie Blvd., Sparks

Carcineria Samber is a growing Mexican meat market in Sparks with a grocery store, kitchen, restaurant, bakery, and butcher. Though the store is small, the butcher shop sells several cuts of fresh meat. Yelpers suggest the handmade chicharrón. Stop by on the weekend for carnitas.

Toro De Oro Market

588 N. McCarran Blvd, Sparks

Toro De Oro Market is a grocery store and meat market in Sparks with a butcher shop, bakery, pantry, and produce section. Along with the variety of meat, the butcher has rare finds and enticing selections like tri-tip bourbon whiskey black Angus beef. Redditors have reported wild game like rabbits, elk, bison, and venison. Yelpers appreciate that the butcher shop takes requests and call it “an exceptional meat market.”

Carnicerias in Southern Nevada

La Bonita

Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson

Hispanic grocery store La Bonita Supermarket opened in Las Vegas in 1991. There are now seven La Bonita supermercados across the valley. When it comes to la carniceria, Yelpers appreciate that the prices are “cheaper than the chain markets.” They also like the large selection and convenience. Many items, including trays, come pre-seasoned for quick preparation.

Mariana’s

Las Vegas and Henderson

With six locations in the Las Vegas Valley, Mariana’s SuperMarkets lays claim to the city’s biggest full-service meat counters and professional butchers who will produce any cut of meat you can dream up. La carniceria has all the right proteins, some of which are marinated and pre-seasoned, giving you plenty of meal-planning options. Yelpers call the marinade “very tasty,” and suggest trying it on tortillas. Don’t forget to grab some homemade fresh chorizo!

Carniceria Los Primos

2411 E. Bonanza Rd., North Las Vegas

Carniceria Los Primos is “the best meat market in Vegas,” according to Yelpers. It specializes in quality meats, seafood, and handmade marinades. This modern butcher shop has all your favorite cuts of meat, from diced to wagyu. Chicken, pork, beef, and seafood plus deli items like salsa and guacamole, can also be ordered via a streamlined online shop, and some items are delivered vacuum-sealed.

La Herradero

3655 S. Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas
3320 E. Lake Mead Blvd., North Las Vegas

Family-owned and operated by fourth-generation butchers, La Herradero Meat Market is a full-service butcher shop and grocery store with affordable, high-quality products, a unique selection, and an impeccable reputation. The community-focused store opened in 1999 and now has two locations. Yelpers like the Spanish music and authentic “Mexican meat market vibes.”

Cardenas

4700 Meadows Ln., 4015 S Buffalo Dr.; Las Vegas

The massive Cardenas Markets are known for a festive atmosphere, Mexican Cocina, and authentic Hispanic grocery products, including produce, poultry, dairy products, and desserts. Their full-service meat and seafood departments offer value and variety, with pre-marinated meats, signature carnitas, daily meal deals, and all kinds of cuts from beef, pork, and lamb as well as octopus and crab

Cuevas Meat Market

530 Boulder Hwy., Henderson

A diamond in the rough on Boulder Highway, Cuevas Meat Market is a neighborhood market with a solid grocery selection, rare items, and a helpful butcher with “skills.” Yelpers speak highly of the meat variety and quality of the cuts, and say they were able to communicate well with staff even though they didn’t speak Spanish.
