Local Democratic leaders, advocates, and volunteers for President Joe Bidenās re-election campaign celebrated the opening of their newest field office in Nevada on Thursday, underscoring the importance of Nevada as a swing state in the 2024 election.Ā
The office, located near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Lamb Boulevard, is in the heart of one of Las Vegasā largest Latino communities, and marks the fifth Biden-Harris campaign office operating in Nevada this election cycle. Itās part of the campaignās broader national effort to increase voter outreach in likely swing states like Nevada, Wisconsin, and Michigan.Ā
Outside the event, local street vendors prepared freshly-cooked tacos for attendees, while inside, the local mariachi band Tempestad performed. The grand opening also featured remarks from several Democratic notables, including US Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, who was in Las Vegas visiting an elementary school and attended in his personal capacity.
āIt’s really important to remind the community that their voice matters,ā Cardona, who is of Puerto Rican descent, told The Nevadan. āSo by going out and talking to folks, not only to share what the president and Democrats have done, but also where weāre going as a party and to make those connections that resonates with their values.ā
And while itās important to engage with voters ahead of any election, Nevada Democratic US Rep. Dina Titus said her party is giving an all-hands-on-deck effort this year to defeat Bidenās likely opponent, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.Ā

āYou donāt want people to have to come to you ā you want to take the campaign to them,ā Titus told reporters at the event. āThis is kind of the heart of my district, the east side. Itās a very lively district, lots going on, and we want them to remember what theyāve done twice in the past ā and that is to reject Trump.āĀ
Itās unclear how many offices the Trump campaign has in Nevada, but reporting last month from the New York Times shows Trumpās recent shakeup of the RNC will allow him to use the partyās apparatus as a proxy for his campaign. Trump lost Nevada in 2016 and again in 2020, each time by roughly 2.4 percentage points.Ā
āWith an operation fueled by hundreds of thousands of small dollar donors and energized supporters, and without sharing our strategy with Democrats through the media, we have the message, the operation, and the money to propel President Trump to victory on Nov. 5,ā Trump campaign senior advisor and RNC Chief of Staff Chris LaCivita said in a statement.Ā
A RNC spokesperson told The Nevadan that Trumpās campaign had offices and staff prior to the state-run presidential primary and the state GOPās run caucuses, but did not elaborate how many offices the Trump campaign currently has in Nevada.Ā
āI think the Republicans are far behind us when it comes to field operations, from walking (door-to-door), calling, to having campaign offices, and it kind of shows their lack of commitment,ā Titus said. āThis is a swing state we never take for granted. We work very hard, and this is some indication of how it pays off.āĀ
In a presidential election thatās almost certain to be determined by a slim margin, itās that type of ground work done now that can pay dividends in November.
āI know itās a sacrifice,ā state Sen. Edgar Flores told volunteers. āAnd I know you have a million more important things to do, individually. But, collectively, there is nothing more important than us fighting for our country (and) ensuring that we keep moving forward.ā
